This short film is based on the day to day life of Mater once life has returned to normal in Radiator Springs.
It is Lightning McQueen’s very first adventure since he decided to stay in the sleepy townn of Radiator Springs.

 

Mater plays pranks on the other residents of the sleepy town on Route 66, such as Pulling some flowers out from underneath Red as he waters them.
Jumping out of Luigi and Guido’s carefully stacked tire replica of the Coliseum to frighten them.

 

The Sheriff admonishes Mater  for “mocking the Ghostlight,”
a character of urban legend amongst the cars. The Ghostlight is described as a “glowing orb of blue, translucent light” that haunts Radiator Springs, and hates nothing more than the sound of clanking metal.

  • This animated short film is included as an extra on the DVD of Cars (2006).

     

  • When the Sheriff mentions “the hot breath of Zozobra” he is talking about Zozobra (”Old Man Gloom”) the giant marionette effigy that is burned every autumn during Fiestas de Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 

  • This is the final film (voice) project for Paul Newman.
